StoriesIG Is Down: What Happened and Alternatives (2026)

StoriesIG has shut down: the service is unavailable (confirmed in October 2026). The official site storiesig.info now displays "This service is permanently unavailable". It can no longer be used to view or download Instagram stories, and no "official" version has replaced it.

This page explains what StoriesIG was, why this kind of tool keeps disappearing, the risks of sites reusing its name, and the safe options left to follow Instagram accounts.

What was StoriesIG?

StoriesIG was a free website, with no sign-up, that displayed stories and posts from public Instagram accounts from a username, and let you save them. It never gave access to private accounts. Marketers, creators and curious users relied on it to look at accounts without using their own Instagram profile.

The tool was never affiliated with Instagram or Meta: it was a third-party service collecting public content outside the official app.

Why these tools shut down

Anonymous story viewers depend on unofficial access to Instagram data, so they rarely last long:

• Instagram's terms of use strictly restrict automated collection of content, and the platform regularly limits this kind of access.
• Technical changes on Instagram frequently break these sites, which need constant fixing.
• Costs and legal risks (copyright, personal data) weigh on free, ad-funded services.

As a result, even if a similar tool works today, there is no guarantee it will still work in a few weeks.

Beware of fake StoriesIG sites

When a well-known service closes, other sites often reuse its name or a similar address to capture its traffic. They have no link to the original tool. A few safety rules:

• Never enter your Instagram login on a third-party site. No legitimate viewer needs it, and it is the most common way accounts get stolen.
• Do not install apps or extensions offered by these sites, or any file "required to download".
• Be wary of aggressive ads, fake virus alerts and payment requests.
• Check the address: a near-identical spelling (doubled letters, another extension) is a red flag.

Privacy and copyright

A public story remains the work of the person who posted it. Viewing it is not forbidden, but reposting, editing or using it without the author's consent may infringe their rights. The alternatives that remain

The safest option is to use Instagram's own features:

• Watch stories from your own account: the normal way. The account owner will see that you viewed them.
• Browse Story Highlights: stories the owner chose to keep stay visible on their profile beyond 24 hours.
• Follow the account or turn on notifications so you don't miss new posts.
• For your own stories, Instagram's archive keeps them and lets you save them.

Other third-party viewers exist, but they shut down or change address very often. We do not recommend them: if you use one, strictly follow the safety rules above and stick to public accounts.
