The same goes for selling your products.

First of all, Gumroad offers plenty of options to boost your sales:

• Fixed price and fixed discount amount

Your customers won't be limited to one option.

The first allows you to set a price and occasionally offer discounts to your customers (in the form of a percentage discount or a fixed amount).

And if you're not sure about the price, you can let your customers pay what they feel is the value of your product.

Be careful to “pay what you want” when selling products that you want to take advantage of.

But if you're planning on using it as a lead magnet, it works well.

If you are a software developer with your own applications, you will need license keys.

Luckily, Gumroad can generate them for you while you focus on the work up front.

If you have customers abroad, you normally have to take care of currency conversion and other details that you don't want to think about when you're out and about.

Gumroad takes care of it, so you can focus on your work.

Pre-orders for your Gumroad products

One of the few things Gumroad offers is pre-orders.

If you want to generate enthusiasm for your product (especially suitable for movies and books), you can ask your customers to pre-order it.

All you have to do is choose the product, promote it, and set a release date.

Any billing details entered by your customers will be used to bill your product upon final release.

This feature works for both physical and digital copies of your creations!

Gumroad memberships and online courses

Besides standard products, you can also Offer online courses or membership programs through Gumroad.

Once your customers know what they can expect from you, creating the right type of content becomes easy.

But if you want to stabilize your income, memberships and subscriptions are the way to go.

If you have enough content, you can start a monthly, quarterly, or annual membership program.

If you're selling a digital course that lasts 3 to 6 months, you can automate billing, relax, and rest.

The main thing I like about membership programs is that you get recurring revenue.

You can also sell licensed software for a monthly subscription.

If your customers sign up for your membership program, they will receive any files you upload to Gumroad as part of that program.

Obviously, Gumroad is not a site specific to online courses or memberships, and therefore does not offer sophisticated features like Teachable or Thinkific.

However, it's a good way to get started with simpler courses that you can simply use PDFs and videos.

While Gumroad was originally intended for creators and artists who wanted to sell their works of art, it is now available to all types of entrepreneurs.

Whether you're someone who makes physical products like DIY items or printed T-shirts from the comfort of your home, you can sell it all on Gumroad.

There are tons of features that will help you streamline the entire process.

If you sell clothing like T-shirts, you can offer your customers the option of choosing between small, medium, and large sizes, as well as other types.

Shipping is simplified on Gumroad.

Whether it's charging appropriate shipping costs based on location, marking packages sent as shipped, or sending tracking details to your customers, Gumroad makes it easy to deliver your physical products.

Gumroad also checks addresses, and if you don't want to ship packages to certain countries, you can set it up easily in your dashboard.

And depending on the country where you work from, Gumroad will take care of sales tax.

You can also customize your product list and experiment with CTAs and different items.

If you sell ebooks or similar products, your customers will also be able to transfer the files to other devices.

If you are worried about plagiarism, you can relax.

Gumroad makes it easy for you to add a watermark to your files, showing exactly which email address you sent your products to.

What is Gumroad Discover?

Banking is easy with a huge audience waiting impatiently for you to offer a product.

But what if you don't have an audience?

If you are a beginner with a small audience, Gumroad Discover is a very handy tool!

Gumroad Discover is an information page that recommends content that customers may be interested in.

This is the function that directly helps you reach a larger audience and get new customers!

For example, a person who usually buys products on the drawing on Gumroad will see similar products on their Gumroad discovery page.

So if you create content related to drawing, they will see it.

Simply activate the Gumroad Discover option in your settings and list the products you want to appear on the Discover page.

However, for this to happen, your product must:

• To be listed
• Have a visible star rating from customers

In short, you can only list products you've already sold so you can be listed on Gumroad Discover.

The discovery tool organizes products into 18 categories, so you need to make sure your product falls into one of these categories.

The labeling system is also very practical!

Also, the Gumroad Discover service is not free.

If Discover allows you to attract a new customer (who has never purchased anything from you) at the (expensive).

It's an acceptable price if you're stuck and haven't been able to sell to new customers in months.

But we still recommend creating an audience outside of Gumroad and then processing transactions through the platform.

Tutorial

The first idea behind creating any type of page with Gumroad is to make sure that people buy your products without having to spend months building your online store.

Normally, you need to pay for Shopify as an online store front, then upload your products, connect payment gateways, use email marketing automation for transactional emails, manage delivery yourself, and so on.

It is a problem.

Luckily, with Gumroad, it's pretty easy to get around all of that (at least at first) and start selling your stuff.

And with the Gumroad tutorials ready to use, you can get started quite quickly, meaning you can start selling a few minutes after creating your account.

Gumroad for online courses

Since courses became very fashionable, online courses are the first item on my list.

Once you've set up your store, you can follow one of the tutorials to create online courses on Gumroad.

Gumroad offers a quick setup option, so you can put all of your products on sale in a matter of moments.

You can promote your products as much as you want, and even offer pre-order options with subscriptions and other promotional campaigns.

You can upload up to 12GB of files in any format.

You can also group all of your resources together before downloading them (especially useful for online courses).

If you want to go further, offer discount codes to your loyal customers.

Then create and share as many as you want!

When Do You Get Paid on Gumroad?

Sales are coming in, so when are you going to get your $$$?

Gumroad pays out winnings every Friday if you've won at least $10.

However, the money must be in their account for 7 days before they send it to you.

If you are in the United States, United Kingdom, Australia, or Canada, you can get paid by card or by direct deposit.

If you are in another country, you will be paid using PayPal.

Can you sell services on Gumroad?

Do you want to sell your coaching services on Gumroad?

It is very good for them!

However, Gumroad recommends offering at least one file to prove that the transaction has taken place.

If you charge for access to a membership website or something similar, you can choose the custom delivery function, and your customers will get the link.

However, we don't think Gumroad is the best choice for selling services.

For example, they don't allow you to sell in-person services or installation services, technical support, website design, and other similar services.

That puts us off. Therefore, we do not recommend using Gumroad if you plan to offer services other than coaching.

The other things you can't sell are

• Web hosting
• Resell software or ebooks
• Goods that you did not entirely create yourself (for example, custom sports shoes, used goods).
• Jewelry
• Steam keys
• Pornography
• CBD/hemp products
• Food, medical or beauty products

If you want to sell art or books that contain explicit material, you can do that, but you can't sell material depicting real humans.

Again, I'm a big fan of Gumroad, but it's just not made for some products.

Application

Gumroad also offers a dashboard application for iOS.

You can track your sales on the go, even on your smartwatch, but that's about it.

You can't use it to add new products or connect with your customers.

It's a bit disappointing, honestly, but nice if you want endorphin surges by getting push notifications about new sales.

Application Library

We hear you, we hear you: what is the difference between the Gumroad app and the Gumroad Library app?

The Gumroad app only allows you to track sales as a Gumroad creator.

But the Gumroad library is for users, which means you can access all the products you purchased on Gumroad from your iOS or Android device.

From there, users can watch/consume the products they purchased, and even save the files to their phones so they can access them offline.

Overall, this is a good thing even for you, as a creator, because your products are now mobile-friendly and you'll be able to reach audiences that mostly use their phones to consume content similar to yours.

Who should use Gumroad?

All creators can use and sell on Gumroad.

Whether you are an aspiring musician who covers new singles every day, or a self-published author with a short story lying in the back of your closet, if you have something that people will be interested in buying, you are more than welcome to Gumroad.

It's made for creators of all kinds.

For example, if you have knowledge about a specific subject, you can create appropriate files and start selling an online course.

You will be amazed at how many people want to hear what you have to say!

Designers can sell creations they made in passing (for example, graphic design elements like social media templates).

Even freelancers can sell their missions that didn't make them any money (unused items, books, etc.).

Gumroad is your playground, but consider the preferences of your audience to continue to generate regular revenue.

You can sell physical and digital products on Gumroad.

As we said before, T-shirts and online courses are both accepted.

But, again, pay attention to content and product restrictions.

Gumroad and its partners (i.e. partner banks) don't want to deal with high-risk items like pornography or CBD products.

Personally, we think artists will get the most out of using Gumroad.

If you sell art, music, or books, the world — or, in this case, Gumroad — is your oyster.

If you are a creator and you like the sound of Gumroad so far, I'm going to do what Jerry Maguire does and show you the money...

... that you have to pay them to sell your products on their platform.

Gumroad offers 2 pricing plans :

Gumroad startup plan

This Gumroad plan is suitable for everyone.

It's free and has no monthly fees.

You can explore Gumroad with this plan, and figure out how much work you need to put in to get those first customers.

You can sell an unlimited number of products, manage all your customers transparently, and track and know your audience through real-time analytics.

However, your workflows will be limited. Gumroad will also charge you 5% for each product sold.

If you plan to offer videos, your customers will only be able to watch them in SD.

All in all, it's not a bad plan for testing the waters of Gumroad.

Plan Gumroad Creator

The Gumroad Creator plan is perfect if you've already found your niche and know what you want to sell.

If you have up to 1,000 customers, you'll have to pay $10 per month for this plan.

If you get more customers, you Get on the ladder.

For example, if you have up to 2,000 customers, it will cost you $25 per month, and so on.

You will also be able to:

• Add your own CSS to your landing page (to customize it)
• Remove Gumroad's branding
• Connect your own domain

Instead of paying a 5% commission, you'll only pay a flat fee of $3.5 + 30 cents per purchase.

You also get unlimited workflows.

And if you're planning to sell your movies, digital courses, webinars, and tutorials, your customers will now be able to stream them in HD.

Alternatives tp Gumroad

If Gumroad doesn't suit your needs as well as you thought, don't worry.

1. Systeme.io

There are specific systeme.io features for each type of product.

For example, if you want sell online courses or offer memberships on systeme.io, you can choose how to distribute your courses (do you want your customers to unlock them all immediately, or “drop by drop” them as you go?)

You can easily set up discounts, upsell offers, etc. to entice your customers to buy additional products.

When it comes to marketing and sales, systeme.io completely replaces your usual email marketing software.

MailChimp?

No need to pay for it anymore.

systeme.io has integrated email marketing automation features, allowing you to stay in touch with your customers, send them automated sequences, and offer them personalized products that they will love!

You can also create fully automated sales funnels.

systeme.io Will literally promote your products while you sleep.

All you need to do is create and post them on your systeme.io website, and cash out at the ATM.

And speaking of websites...

Gumroad only offers a home page for your product. systeme.io allows you to visually create your entire website: home and sales pages, blogs, etc.

You can choose from the template gallery and customize your pages to your heart's content.

No, you don't need to know how to code. All you need is one product and you're ready to go!

2. Thinkific

If you're planning on selling courses or memberships, Thinkific is a fairly robust platform.

Because it specializes in courses, Thinkific offers more features than Gumroad:

• Build your course visually
• Engage your students
• Set up quizzes to test knowledge

I recently reviewed Thinkific, so don't forget to check it out before you commit.

What's Good: Thinkific has a free plan, so you can test it out.

However, it does not offer all the options and business benefits of systeme.io.

Namely, it doesn't offer email marketing, sales funnels, or simple upsells.

You'll still have to pay for additional tools.

3. Instapage

If you want to keep it simple and start selling your products, you can use Instapage.

Instapage is exactly what it says on the packaging: a Visual landing page creator. It works better for ads.

You can choose from hundreds of templates, customize them using content blocks, and experiment with different page versions.

In shorts, it is simple and light.

However, don't expect Instapage to have fancy gadgets like systeme.io.

It's just a landing page builder.

If that's what you need, great!

But for $149/month for landing pages only (that's the Instapage price),

It's better to go with systeme.io and get everything you need to market and sell your products for FREE.

What payment options does Gumroad offer?

Gumroad gives you limited but standard payment options, like PayPal, to sell your products.

The following payment methods are possible with Gumroad:

• *All major credit cards
• PayPal

*Note: Cards usually need to be integrated with Stripe to accept major credit cards, but Gumroad is its own payment gateway, making the setup process easy!

Both of the above payment options are standard and are generally all you need to start accepting payments in most parts of the world.

Gumroad does not have the following payment processing options:

• Payoneer
• Authorize.Net
• Skrill
• Braintree
• Apple Pay
• Google Pay
• Cryptocurrencies

Now let's focus on the types of payments you can create with Gumroad.

For information, once you click on Digital product gold Physical product (see image below), you can choose your type of payment.

Single Product Payments

Single product payment is the easiest payment method to create.

Simply create your unique product name, upload your paid content, customize your payment page (limited options) and you're good to go.

(Make sure you have set up PayPal or Gumroad's payment solution before accepting a transaction from potential customers).

Subscription payments

Whether your business has a digital or physical product to sell, you can create a subscription that earns you recurring sales.

(Since recurring products are generally used for digital products, we'll use a sample subscription for this section. Setting up physical products on Gumroad is also easy).

Gumroad will ask you what type of subscription you offer: Permanent content or access to a membership.

Let's choose a subscription for this commercial example.

To give you an idea of how this can work, imagine selling a monthly video series in your niche. Each month, you get paid $xxx, xx, and your customers get your new videos. That, by the way, Gumroad is stopping people from downloading.

Whatever form of digital content you choose to put online, Gumroad hosts it for you and only gives access to it to your paying customers.

In addition to a simple set up process, Gumroad has a useful feature that allows you to set a limit on how many months you want.

Additionally, in the Options section, you have the option to offer multi-option payment plans.

Test products

Usually, trials go hand in hand with subscription products, but unfortunately, Gumroad doesn't offer trials on its platform. Essays are meant to give potential customers a glimpse of what they are getting. In my experience, these are usually software, forums, or private online groups.

While Gumroad doesn't offer trial features, it does offer a license key option. This option is useful for developers who need to provide a unique license key for each paying customer.

Are Gumroad's Checkout Pages Known for High Conversion Rates?

One of the most important responsibilities of a shopping cart is to have checkout pages with a high conversion rate.

Currently, Gumroad doesn't offer much in the way of customizing payment pages in its free plan. By upgrading your account, you can change your payment pages by doing the following:

• Removal of the Gumroad Brand
• Add your own CSS
• Use your own domain to host checkout pages
• Change the theme and style of the checkout pages.

With your free account, you can adjust the purchase flow settings that allow you to change:

• The text under the buy button
• Form fields
• Cash receipt presentation text

Gumroad is the norm when it comes to getting people from your site's sales page to your checkout page by giving you the checkout page URL.

However, they also offer you two other options (both methods require you to insert a code on your sales page).

• Option 1: Overlay your shopping cart on your website
• Option 2: Integrate your shopping cart on your website

Note: Gumroad now offers the”Gumroad WP Plugin“, which allows you to implement both of the above options without touching the code. You can also create a hypertext link between the buttons on your site and the URL of your payment page, provided you use an appropriate page builder.

Surprisingly, both of these options are advanced features that I didn't expect to see, since the company seems to want to keep things simple.

Does Gumroad offer A/B testing? It's a no. Maybe they'll add split tests in the future, but right now, they only provide statistics for one product order page at a time.

If you are looking for a shopping cart platform that can test different models, this is not the solution for you.

Focus on conversion functions:

Simplistic payment pages that can be customized to some extent with the free account version. More customization features are unlocked at the paid account level. Currently, it does not offer split A/B testing.

Does Gumroad offer discount codes, upsells, and bundles features?

The three main methods known to stimulate sales at the time of checkout are as follows: discount codes, order increases, and upsells.

For now, Gumroad only offers discount codes for users.

You can create discount codes in your product options.

Unfortunately, bundles or upsells aren't possible right now, which is understandable because it's one of the most basic, yet robust, shopping cart platforms out there.

Focus on advanced sales features:

Apart from discount coupon codes, there are no advanced sales features like upsell offers or bundles.

Does Gumroad offer an affiliate feature?

Another way to increase sales is to use affiliates to promote your product (s). Gumroad has everything planned for this purpose - in Gumroad style: simple and straightforward!

What you see in the image below is what you get:

Unlike some shopping cart platforms, Gumroad does not provide a signup page that you can offer.

Instead, they ask you to manually add affiliates of your choice. It's not that bad until you realize that your affiliates need to have their own Gumroad account before they can become your affiliates (hey, it's their house, their rules).

Affiliation

Gumroad simplifies its affiliate center by asking you to manually add your affiliates' email addresses, select your product, and choose the percentage of commission you'll share per affiliate sale.

What integrations does Gumroad offer?

Large shopping carts have lots of integrations with different tools in what's called a tech stack. The two most important tools that a shopping cart can integrate with are your autoresponder service and a membership service.

When it comes to email marketing service providers, Gumroad offers the following integrations:

• ConvertKit
• Infusionsoft
• Drip by drop

And that's it for native integrations (seriously).

If you're using something else like GetResponse, you can still integrate stuff, but you'll need to use Zapier, which we'll cover soon.

Note: to integrate any of the three items above, you'll notice that they can't be integrated into the Gumroad dashboard. They must be integrated from the dashboard of the corresponding autoresponder.

What about integrations with membership platforms like Wishlist Member gold MemberMouse ?

Well, Gumroad itself is unique because it's a shopping cart and a membership platform. That means it can protect your paid content in its backend. It can host images, videos, and audio for you.

That's why Gumroad doesn't offer integration with third-party membership platforms.

Webinars are an optional tool in the tech stack for some marketers. Currently, they are not offered either.

A webinar is an advanced marketing tool for selling products. They don't fit well into Gumroad's simplistic approach, which is why no integration has ever been done for webinars.

That said, if you use a different email service provider than the three mentioned above and/or if you want to use a webinar platform, you will need to use Zapier. There are pre-existing “zaps” that you can use to make sure your tech stack integrates seamlessly with Gumroad.

Integrations:

They lack integrations provided by most other platforms, but at least Zapier exists nowadays. Gumroad's integrated membership platform is suitable for protecting paid content.

How good is Gumroad's customer service?

A shopping cart is a crucial part of selling products online. When you need help with a shopping cart problem, you want to know that the shopping cart platform has your back.

In this respect, Gumroad does not stand out from most shopping cart platforms by offering support items in its help center and email support.

In my experience, their customer service is good (they usually get back to you during the day on weekdays), but the articles in their help center need to be updated.

The help center is random because it doesn't answer every question. I would say that most of the time, for basic questions, you will find the answers to your problems.

But other times it seems that some items are missing. And to be honest, selling products online can get complicated sometimes. Especially when your sales process has specific features.
