What is Tailwind?

Tailwind is a social media management tool focused on Pinterest and Instagram. It allows bloggers and marketers to optimize their presence on these platforms to increase traffic to their sites.

  • Publication planning : Program your pins and posts to broadcast them at the optimal time.
  • Performance analysis : Track the effectiveness of your publications to adjust your strategy.

Tailwind is particularly useful for its ability to make your Pinterest and Instagram content viral, thanks to its programming and sharing tools. With a subscription starting at $10 per month, it offers features such as Communities and SmartLoops, in addition to responsive and user-friendly customer support.

Who is Tailwind for?

Tailwind is designed for individuals and businesses who want to optimize their presence on Pinterest and Instagram. Here are its main users:

  • Bloggers : Tailwind helps bloggers increase blog traffic by effectively exploiting Pinterest.
  • Instagram marketers : For those looking to increase their audience and redirect followers to their site or blog.

With Tailwind, users can maximize opportunities to build brand awareness on these platforms. Compared to alternatives like Sprout Social and HubSpot, Tailwind stands out for its ease of use, affordability, and an attractive free trial policy.

1. Post on social networks

You can schedule social media posts with Tailwind very easily.

Log into your Tailwind account and, on the Home tab of the dashboard, click Upload Media. Next, select the main social media account, such as your Instagram account, that you want to schedule your post to.

tailwind upload media

Tailwind automatically crops your images when you upload them so that they match the dimensions accepted by the platform on which you are posting them.

The app suggests hashtags when you write a caption for your post.

tailwind schedule caption

Each hashtag is color coded according to the competitiveness that Tailwind assigns to it. If you hover over one of them, you'll be able to see how many messages it contains.

There's no way to filter hashtag results, which is unfortunate since the majority of the hashtags that the tool labeled as non-competitive weren't relevant to the content I was posting.

For example, by putting “link in bio” in my Instagram caption, I got suggestions like “biologico” and “eco.”

However, being able to choose from dozens of hashtags and having data for each of them is very useful for managing social networks.

You can also get suggestions by entering your own hashtags. This is a good alternative if the tool generates irrelevant hashtags.

tailwind hashtag suggestions

Plus, you can save your selected hashtags in a group for quick access later.

You can also add emojis and change font styles. And yes, font styles are showing up on Instagram.

tailwind instagram font styles

Tailwind also has a preview of your Instagram grid at the bottom of the calendar user interface (UI).

2. Scheduling messages

Tailwind offers two methods for scheduling publications:

  • Automatic publishing - Let Tailwind schedule your publication automatically at the time and date you specify.
  • Post reminder - Get notified on your phone when you want the post to go live and then post it manually.

Tailwind has a function called SmartRecommendations that shows the days and times of the week for which it suggests scheduling your message.

The recommendations are based on when your Instagram (or Pinterest/Facebook) followers are most active.

You can also post cross-messages on Pinterest and Facebook and write separate descriptions if needed.

tailwind schedule post

The final verdict: Tailwind released all the messages exactly when they were supposed to be broadcast.

However, the automatic publishing feature is not available for posts that contain multiple images. You'll need to ask the app to send you a notification by phone and then post the message manually.

This is much less effective and makes the tool a bit redundant for managing social networks, especially for programming Instagram.

We have All the same A quick warning for Instagram users before continuing.

That's pretty much the unfortunate part about choosing Tailwind over others. social media management tools. They require you to use an Instagram Business account to be able to use the automatic publishing feature.

Note: Instagram offers three account types: two for business accounts and one for personal accounts. The two types of business accounts are called Creator and Business.

Many Instagram users experience huge drops in engagement after switching from a Creator business account to a Business Business account.

If you're using a Creator account and don't want to take the risk, try a tool like Pallyy. It supports both account types.

3. Tailwind browser extension

You can also share blog posts and other web pages on the fly using the app's browser extension.

It retrieves all the images available on the page you want to share. Simply choose one, then click the button associated with the extension to transfer it to the Schedule tool.

4. Tailwind Create

The graphic design tool consists of several different sections:

  • Design Gallery - Create designs here.
  • Favorites - A place to store your favorite models. Unfortunately, you can't bookmark your own custom templates.
  • Projects - Images that you selected to create designs.
  • Brand Settings - Set your brand fonts, logos, and color palette for quick access in the design gallery.

Let's start with brand parameters.

tailwind brand settings

You start by entering your brand name in the Brand Information field.

Then, you can select two fonts to represent your brand: a title font and a subtitle font.

Tailwind offers hundreds of web fonts, but you can also download your own.

The app also offers font combinations for almost any font.

tailwind curated font pairings

The Color Palette feature allows you to choose four colors to represent your brand.

There is a color selection tool, but Tailwind also offers selected palettes for you to choose from.

Finally, you can download as many logos as you want.

5. Design gallery

The design tool itself is also divided into various sections: Photos, Text, Elements, and Branding.

You have three options for choosing a photo to use:

  • Upload a photo.
  • Pull an image from a URL. Tailwind will then use this URL as the destination link for Pinterest pins.
  • Use a stock photo.

Tailwind's stock library is full of high-quality images. Plus, the search results are relevant to the search terms you enter.

tailwind stock photo library

Once you have chosen an image, you can choose a design template to use.

There's even a filter you can set up to match the type of design you want to create. Here are the options:

  • Message type - Instagram feed posts, Instagram stories, Pinterest pins, or Facebook feed posts.
  • Number of photos - One photo, multiple photos, no photos, or any number of photos
  • Category - You can choose from several primary categories and dozens of secondary categories are also available. Primary category options include Content, Promotion, Industry, Industry, Style, Tailwind, and Design Trends.

The tool generates custom post inspiration design templates based on the filter options you've chosen. As you browse, you can select the templates you like to save for later or choose one to edit immediately.

You can also choose a different color palette or click the “Mix Colors” button assigned to each model preview.

tailwind design templates

While the designs are not of poor quality, they are not very varied. So you may have trouble finding models that match your brand's marketing tone.

Once you're in the editor, you can edit specific items or add items. These include title text, subtitle text, call to action text, and various forms.

There are not many shapes to choose from, and their style is quite basic. However, you can assign colors to each element and change their opacity.

tailwind design tool

You can also adjust the brightness, contrast, saturation, and blur of your image.

tailwind image settings

Text settings are also available. Apply various settings for fonts, colors, opacity, opacity, shadows, letter spacing, line height, and font styles.

tailwind text settings

Once you have completed your design, you can download it to your device or take it to the programming tool.

tailwind design summary

Currently, “selecting” a model is the only way to save it in Tailwind. There is a blue button at the top of the design tool called “View Selected Designs” followed by the number of designs you selected.

It would be great if there was a proper way to save the drawings in the dashboard.

The only way to make sure they don't get lost is to download them.

The best you can do is add the text you want in the left panel as you go through the templates, choose a color palette, and then prefer the design from there.

6. Favorites and projects

Let's go through these sections briefly.

The Favorites section shows the models you have preferred.

They present the image with which you have favoured them.

Like in the Design Gallery, you can choose a different color palette to browse through your favorite models or click the “Mix Colors” button assigned to each one.

tailwind favorites

The Projects section contains images that you uploaded or selected from the Design Gallery.

The models you have chosen for each will not be selected here.

Instead, clicking on one takes it back to the design gallery where you can choose a template.

7. Tailwind communities

Tailwind Communities is a powerful feature for Pinterest marketing.

Formerly known as Tailwind Tribes, Tailwind Communities is a content sharing hub where you and other Tailwind users can share each other's pins.

There are hundreds of communities to join for an endless number of topics. You can even create your own community.

Here is a community dashboard within Tailwind Communities:

tailwind communities community dashboard

The left side contains community details including:

  • The tags he is assigned to in Tailwind communities.
  • Community guidelines that every member should adhere to.
  • Statistics for re-shares and re-pins.
  • Your personal statistics within the community.
  • Community members.

The right side is reserved for pins from other members of the community.

To reshare someone else's pin, simply select the board you want to share it on, then click Add to Queue.

tailwind communities pins

You can also filter communities. For example, click the “Weekly Highlights” button to show only the best content available in your community.

Tailwind even offers a useful checklist and comprehensiveness score to help you get started with Tailwind Communities.

tailwind communities checklist

It's true that Tailwind's Communities feature was a bit difficult to set up.

At first, I couldn't get past the welcome screen where Tailwind asks you to choose the topics you want to find communities for.

tailwind communities loading

It was done in Chrome.

A customer service representative recommended using an incognito window instead, or trying to set it up in an entirely different browser.

tailwind customer service email

Quick aside: the customer service representative who answered my ticket called me back the next day to make sure I understood everything, which is pretty cool since I don't have a paid plan.

I still ran into problems when I tried the incognito window, but using a different browser worked great.

Luckily, I was able to use the Tailwind Communities feature in Chrome after going through the initial setup process in a different browser.

Selecting the first community to join was also not easy.

In fact, Tailwind only lists communities that it thinks you might be interested in. You can't enter your own search terms to find communities that are more relevant to your niche.

You can however do it after joining this first community. This makes it much easier to find communities related to your niche.

tailwind communities search

Overall, the Tailwind Communities feature is a fantastic way for Pinterest influencers to get noticed.

8. Smart.bio

Tailwind has its own Link tool in the bio, optimized for Instagram.

tailwind smart bio

You can add two types of elements to it: buttons and Instagram posts.

Buttons appear at the top of your Smart.bio page, allowing you to focus on your most important links or those that have recently been promoted.

Adding links is easy. All you have to do is fill in two fields: one for the button label and another for its URL.

tailwind smart bio button

You can drag and drop links when you have multiple links.

You can also add Instagram posts manually, but there are easier ways to do this in the Tailwind dashboard.

When you go to Insights → Post Inspector, you'll find an Add a Link button (to Smart.bio) for each post you've posted on Instagram.

You still have to manually paste your Instagram post URL into the link field, but if you hover over the preview image in the post inspector, you'll find a button that contains the URL.

tailwind post inspector

After activating your Smart.bio page, you'll notice a new UI element when you schedule new Instagram posts.

It allows you to add your scheduled message to your Smart.bio page. It will appear when the message is online.

tailwind add new smart bio link

Unfortunately, you can only customize three items on your Smart.bio page:

  • Page title
  • Button color
  • Postal link button text

There is no background or options for fonts and buttons.

tailwind customize smart bio page

It would be more effective if the “smart” link tool in Tailwind's bio allowed you to add Instagram posts to your page in one click rather than having to search and paste URLs.

However, it is a good idea to integrate this function into your social media programming tool.

9. Email marketing

tailwind email builder

Tailwind's email marketing tool is a bit weird. This is mainly due to the fact that it only allows you to have 20 subscribers, even if you are subscribed to their highest price point.

It's also odd due to the lack of features in their other tools, as well as the lack of social media reception and tracking features.

It would be more logical for the development team to focus its efforts on strengthening aspects of the application related to social networks, especially considering the uselessness of an email marketing tool that only allows you to build a list of up to 20 subscribers.

It is obvious that the tool will develop over time, but I would prefer the application to have more social media features.

Here is a quick overview of the email marketing features offered by Tailwind:

  • Subscription form with custom attributes
  • Drag-and-drop email creation
  • Marketing automation
  • Over 100 email templates

FAQs

How do I find people who share good content?

To find people sharing content on social media related to your niche and interests, simply type in a keyword and Tailwind will show you the top influencers from around the world who share similar content. You can now start engaging with them and connecting with them by following or adding them as friends.

Can I use Tailwind for free?

Yes, you can do that. You can use Tailwind for free, but it has the limitation of only being able to post on Pinterest and Instagram.

Final Verdict

Tailwind may not have all the features of other platforms, but it's a great social media programming tool that's worth looking into.

It is especially optimized for Pinterest marketing.

The Tailwind Communities feature is one of the strengths of the Tailwind app. It's a powerful way to get noticed and connect with Pinterest members.

The graphic design tool is also an effective way to create designs on the fly.

A dedicated graphic design tool such as Canva would be preferable, but it's great to have a function like this integrated into a social media programming tool.

Even better, Tailwind has a plan for everyone, regardless of the size of your audience.

You can start with a free forever plan that allows you to connect one account per platform and post up to 20 messages per month.
